Condemnation according to the English dictionary is “the condition of being strongly disapproved of”, “the act of judicially adjudging guilty, unfit for use, or forfeited”. Christians all over the world face condemnations every day, not because they have done something wrong but the “world” simply hates the children of God.
The bible tells us that as Christians, we are not of the “world” and as such we would face persecutions and trials during our time here. We are also made to know that the devil is the prince of this “world” and, he is the accuser of the brethren. The devil has from time immemorial accused the children of God through condemnation with the sole aim of taking us from the glory of God.
The sole purpose of condemnation, per the definitions, is to make Christians feel disqualified, not fit for God’s use and to forfeit the goodness of God by creating in us a sense of guilt over lives. There are several ways the devil Christians to condemn them. Here are the six most common ways, the Christian faces condemnation.
GUILT OF PAST SINS
harboring the guilt of the past is one of the ways Christians easily face condemnation. What the devil does is to bring you pieces of your past life before your met Christ. Though you are a born-again believer, this can be very tormenting especially if you are a new believer. The aim of this strategy by the devil is to make you feel unworthy of the salvation you have received from Christ Jesus. What you must know is that when God forgives, he forgives completely and does not hold us against those sins anymore. The pictures and sometimes the past the devil brings to you are not real anymore, you have been translated from that past into a new life, stand firm in your salvation.
Backsliding means to fall back into sin or failure to live to a standard. Many Christians do backslide and the devil uses this to condemn them every moment of the lives. Though it is not the place of the Christian to backslide, we must know that God is faithful to forgive us our sins when we confess to him. So instead of facing constant condemnation from the devil, rise and confess your sins to God, and he will restore you to your rightful place in Christ Jesus.
One of the standards of the Christian is prayer, through prayer, we build ourselves and commune with God. When Christians do not pray, they expose themselves to condemnation from the devil. The devil will condemn you for every error you make in your life. He will accuse you for not living to the standard of your faith.
This is very fundamental for the bible says for lack of knowledge my people perish. Ignorance is very expensive as compared to gaining knowledge. When you are ignorant of God’s word, you will pay dearly as the devil would constantly condemn you. When you don’t know, what God has prepared for you or said concerning a particularly situation you might be facing, the devil takes advantage of you every day. The only way to know about your new life in Jesus as a Christian is to study the word of God which guides you against any form of condemnation.
Fear is the root cause of many challenges in the Christian’s life. Fear keeps you from realizing your full potentials and usually this fear is because of the unknown. The moment fear takes over your life, you are faced with barricades of problems ranging from sickness, poverty and even doubting your salvation. Fear gives room to the devil to condemn Christians thereby robbing them of their inheritance.
The bible says that no one can please God without faith and the devil knows this very well so he fights against the faith of Christians every day. Anytime we doubt God, the devil accuses us before God, he condemns us before the throne room of God that we do not deserve anything. But remember that the throne room of God is the throne room of Grace, and the grace of God is sufficient for us.
The list continues, but the bottom line is that Christians must know that there is an accuser of the brethren who takes the least opportunity to accuse us before God. But God is merciful, he loves us so much that even in our weaknesses, he would never give up on us. Before I sign off, I would leave you with a typical example of the devil’s accusations and condemnations of Christians and of God’s love and mercy towards his children in the book of Zachariah 3:5
Zechariah 3 New King James Version (NKJV)
Vision of the High Priest
3 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?”
3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel.
4 Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”
5 And I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.”
So, they put a clean turban on his head, and they put the clothes on him. And the Angel of the Lord stood by.
